Barber Program Breakdown

The barber program at Wade Gordon Hairdressing Academy includes 1,000 hours of training in Texas and 1,500 hours of training at our Oklahoma campus. Both are broken into categories that help prepare you to sit for the state licensure exam and pursue a future in men’s grooming. Our program covers topics such as:

The Barber School Experience

Make the barbershop environment your second home. Our barbering program is where you can sharpen your skills, use your creativity, and discover what kind of professional you want to become.

Each section of our program can help you build a strong foundation in theory before you develop real experience using the tools of the trade. The curriculum is structured in three phases. In phase 1, you’ll build foundational skills and set goals. Phase 2 is when you’ll refine those skills by practicing on mannequins and gaining hands-on experience. In phase 3, you can focus on business development, client retention strategies, and preparing for success in a barbershop environment.

At Wade Gordon Hairdressing Academy, students learn through hands-on training, one-on-one feedback, and collaborative learning with like-minded peers and experienced instructors. You can gain real-world experience, learn customer service skills, and explore the basics of business management. Our school is where you can build your barber skillset while exploring a future working in an established barbershop or even being your own boss. Barber Program Schedule Options

We offer several flexible scheduling options to help you balance your education with your day-to-day responsibilities. Choose the schedule that works for you:

Monday–Wednesday: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (22.5 hours/week)
Monday–Friday: 9:00 AM–3:00 PM (30 hours/week)
Monday–Friday: 9:00 AM–4:30 PM (35 hours/week)

Classes begin on the first Monday of each month, and you can start enrollment any time.

Our Texas locations offer a hybrid barber program combining in-person training and online education. Contact our admissions team to learn more about our scheduling options today.

Already Have Your Cosmetology License?

If you already have a valid cosmetology license, you may be eligible for our Barber Crossover program! This 300-hour course is designed to help cosmetologists prepare to sit for the state board exam to become licensed barbers without repeating their full cosmetology training. It’s a great option for professionals who want to expand their services or transition into men’s grooming. Talk to our admissions team to learn more about this unique pathway into barbering.

How long does it take to complete barber school?

The barber program consists of 1,000 clock hours at our Texas campus and 1,500 hours of training at our Oklahoma-based school. Depending on your chosen schedule and location, you can complete your training in as little as seven months. Flexible scheduling options are available, so you can go through the program at a pace that suits your lifestyle.

Do you offer financial aid for the barber program?

Will I get to work with real clients?

Yes. Students have the opportunity to work with clients in a barbershop environment under the supervision of experienced instructors. This hands-on experience is an essential part of your training and gives you a real sense of what it’s like to work in a barbershop. It’s a chance to build your confidence, develop client interaction skills, and refine your techniques.

Can you help me find a job after graduation?

While job placement is not guaranteed, our goal is to create opportunities for connection and growth that can lead to the next stage of your journey. There may be opportunities to connect with local barbershops, salon owners, and industry professionals during scheduled tours and networking events. We can also assist with preparing a resume or coaching you on building a client base.

What's the difference between Cosmetology and Barbering?

Cosmetology covers many services, including hairstyling, skincare, nails, and makeup application. Barbering focuses on men’s grooming, like cutting, styling, shaving, and beard design. Barbering could be the right path if you are passionate about precision cuts and classic techniques. Cosmetology may be a better match if you want to provide a wider range of salon services.
